How much fluoride for a child?

It depends on the age:

– 0 to 3 years: toothpaste dosed at 1000 ppm (parts per million), in an amount equivalent to a grain of rice.

– 3 to 6 years: toothpaste dosed at 1000 to 1450 ppm, in an amount equivalent to a pea.

– 6 years and +: toothpaste dosed at 1450 ppm, as for adults.

⚠️ Precaution: the risk of fluorosis

Excess fluoride in young children can lead to dental fluorosis (small white spots on the teeth). Hence the importance of:

– respect the recommended doses,

– do not swallow toothpaste,

– Monitor brushing until about 7 years of age.
